One week with Lingual Braces - update #2!

Hello ^.^

Well, I've made it through a week with these horrible braces!! To be quite honest - at first I didn't think it was bad at all! The pain was tolerable - the braces slightly uncomfortable: the cutting up of my tongue was the worst bit! But overall, quite all right! (It could be worse for others though - my pain tolerance is pretty ship shape!) - was looking forward to a deliciously cooked meal after not eating for a few days!

BOY WAS I WRONG.

It's been an entire week since I've eaten anything solid - I want to kill myself* (myself being my stomach which is so grumbly all the time!). I'm pretty sure it's all my head now - there's no pain with chewing foods, but I just can not bring myself to do it! The moment food goes into my mouth, I start gagging. I assume it's because having the braces on the inside of my teeth crowds my tongue/throat out - so it freaks out thinking that I'm about to suffocate and die! Bite sized pieces weren't much of a step in the right direction either - gagging is nothing in comparison to feeling chunks of un-chewed food hanging from the roof of your mouth - ick!! The point is - do not get braces on the inside of your mouth! UNLESS you never want to eat again - then by all means, by my guest!

However here's a quick shot of my teeth now! The worst tooth is still being ugly - sticking out into space like that! But I can feel everything has moved so violently that I can no longer clench my teeth!

Another thing I've noticed is I never smile with teeth! I have annoying dimples either way but smiling with teeth I found was never flattering. I tried to give it a go - but awkward half open duck mouth/pout shenanigans happened. Definitely something to work on!! (also: I'm in support of shamelessly taking photos of oneself - most ladies are guilty of this! heh)

While I'm posting a photo of myself, I need to take everyone's attention to the scarf I'm wearing (my absolutely favourite in my collection - impulse purchase whilst being wooed by the sexy French-man in the Galleries Lafyette Chanel store - neutrals and off blacks, I'm such a sucker <3).

I love scarves! Scarves are probably the best thing since sliced bread (oh sliced bread - how I miss you). Being the 'token goth' in most social situations, throwing a scarf onto my usual black ensemble brightens it like you would not believe. I know this isn't really a new or exciting revelation - scarves have been around since 700 BC! Although apparently they were used as sweat clothes, to wipe the sweat from the neck and face in hot weather... The point is, I cannot advocate the humble scarf as much as it deserves! Summer is around the corner - but a little silk number will suit any cute summery dress! It may even save you from dreaded chest sunburn!

Bisous my lovelies!!

*I would never do that! But I sure know of a few people that definitely should jump stat!

Its TEETH-HURT TIMEEE! (hurrhurr)

...yes, yes that was a Jersey Shore pun. Although is anyone still watching/interested? I only just finished the finale/& reunion today, and usually I'm the one to religiously wait until 5pm on a Friday to watch the newest uploaded episode. Unfortunately it seems to have become suddenly, extremely boring - lets hope season 5 returns to its trashy and brilliant former glory!!

BUT! The main event - my braces are now on. My god,  I have never been in more pain in my entire life. It's not so much a horrible excruciating "I cant bare to live" kind of pain - more so a "I can feel that I'm in a lot of pain but cant place exactly where its hurting, nor do anything about it". Absolutely awful. To make it worse, due to the fact the braces are on the inside of my teeth, my poor tongue has been ripped to shreds.

Day 1: I was pleasantly surprised - I'd anticipated absolute agony. It wasn't too bad at all, the braces didn't interfere with my tongue too much, I was able to chew and only had the slightest lisp - even worked all day!

Day 2: Stupid me forgot to put in the protective 'wax' during the night, thus the next morning I woke up in sheer pain whilst chewing the sides of my tongue to death. This caused major swelling and blood loss - to make it worse my lisp was about 50x more intense. The worst part however was the throbbing pain - nurofen plus could only do so much!

Day 3: was very much like day 2, but more infuriating. I shed a few frustrated tears at work,  mainly because eating mushy foods was messing with my sanity and I waned out of this braces deal stat!

Today: It's getting better! the cuts are really painful still, but I've improved my newly formed speech impediment. Still about ready to rip these off my teeth but, in the interest of straight beautiful teeth, I'm sticking it out!! To be perfectly honest I feel like a teething baby - I would kill to dig my teeth into a giant steak!! (worst vegetarian ever!)

Here's a picture of Day 4 - after I'd just finished work. Not feeling too peachy but I forced a grimace. The quality is shabby too, but at least you can see a SLIGHT improvement with my snaggle tooth!(?)

Will update next week on progress! Until then, lots of sobbing and pain killers!!

The Sassy & Smart Girls Guide to Lingual Braces!

 Well world...

As of 8am next Monday - I will be almost certainly a slobbering, spitting, slurring lisp-y dream come true.

Why? I hear you ask...

I will have braces....

I've never really had bad teeth - actually as far as teeth go they're up there in terms of whiteness and being all there. But being the vain young thing that I am, I began to notice a not so nice 'snaggle' tooth protruding my otherwise OK smile. With only a few months left on the "I will pay for your braces if you get them before you're 21" deal made by my father, I decided to go ahead and get my wisdom teeth out, in preparation for my inner sanctum to be invaded by metal.

Little did I know a few months would fly right past me and the day in which I become Lizzy "brace-face" Davey would be right at my doorstep!

There is a somewhat silver lining to all this though - I managed to convince the orthodontist to put me in 'Lingual Braces'. Lingual is Orthodontist terminology for braces that go on the inside of your teeth. I believe the pain level is a billion times worse than with regular braces - however I would rather die than face the world as a twenty something metal mouth (apologies to any of you who have braces on the outside! Kudos for being so brave! I'm sure you rock the look!)

Each week/month I think I'm going to upload a photo of my new and improving chompers - so I can track their progress and hopefully show the long and painful experience! I'll keep ya'll updated on their progress!!

Here are my teeth currently!!

See what I mean about a snaggle tooth? On the left, sticking out righttt out into space.

The end product (hopefully!!):

I find solace in the fact that my favourite country love Miley Cyrus also had Lingual Braces - her bottom teeth are looking fabulous these days! No more snaggle tooth for her. From this I can only conclude that in 9 months I will look exactly like Miley Cyrus.

But until monday - someone pass me the candy corn, toffee apple and caramel!!
